A Note About Change

He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments. Psalm 78:5-7

Change is inevitable.  That is clear.  But change is actually a part of God’s diving purpose in the world.  With the ebb and flow of life, and the passing years, decades and generations, something is to be constant amidst all of the change.  The constant is the testimony about our Lord, that we tell to our children.  In the passing on of this truth about God and His grace towards us, people will be drawn to put their hope in God.  What an amazing and beautiful thing that we get to be a part of.

Something that rings true in this is the immensity of what is actually taking place in these words.  It is so much bigger than our little sliver of life that we will are given.  We get to be a small part, just a page of an immense novel.  God is the writer and we get to help carry the words of the story to the reader.  The Word of God and the stories we can tell of His faithfulness, love, justice, mercy, grace, etc. will call others to put their hope in God.  Others will be called to repent and believe in their only source of salvation and life; Jesus Christ, the cross that bore our sin and the grave that is empty revealing new life in Christ. We are called to simply be heralds of His Gospel and storytellers of His story.  We are to be faithful to the task before us.  He will supply the words and He will supply the means to accomplish it.

This is why I love the Word of God.  It tells us everything we need about life and godliness.  In fact the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ, is everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3-4).  We must never forget this.  We need to stay focussed on Christ in all things.  Everything that we do is for His pleasure and His glory.  What an amazing privilege to be a witness to this.

Change is inevitable.  When people come face to face with Jesus Christ, in all the fullness of His power and glory, they will be changed.  Let us be faithful with the words and the Word that we are given.  In so doing, the next generation might know him…and tell it to their children…and they all will set their hope in God.

Amen and Amen, Let this indeed be true
